Wayne State University Upgrades to Next-generation, Wireless Networking

With the launch of a $1.3 million technology initiative, Wayne State University is joining the first wave of universities adopting new 802.11n high-performance wi-fi technology. The project doubles the capacity of Wayne State's current wireless network within its Midtown Detroit campus. The 33,000-student school is upgrading to 802.11n products from Meru Networks.

Missouri's College of the Ozarks has chosen a new document management solution from Perceptive Software to help it transition from paper and manual processes to an electronic document repository. Solano CC Implementing Trapeze Wireless Network

Compliance Framework Database Updated

Consulting and publishing firm Network Frontiers has released the Q1 2008 Unified Compliance Framework (UCF), a database used in compliance management systems. UCF maps hundreds of regulations, including privacy information, HIPPA, PCI-DDS and Medicaid/Medicare mandates, into a master hierarchal framework. This latest version of the UCF consolidates cross platform configuration management controls into a single set of controls.

Microsoft Joins MIT Kerberos Consortium

The MIT Kerberos Consortium has added Microsoft to its ranks of formal industry supporters. The company joined the group Monday as a founding sponsor, gaining a seat on the executive board, which also includes representatives from Apple, Sun, Google, and, of course, MIT itself. Microsoft's director of Windows Core Security, Slava Kavsan, will occupy the board seat.

USPTO Rejects Blackboard Patent Claims

[Update 10] Blackboard's e-learning patent looks to be going down. The United States Patent and Trademark Office this week sent out a "non-final" determination on the reexamination of Blackboard's patent in which all of the claims on the patent were rejected. Blackboard still has a period of two months to respond to the determination.

Microsoft's 'Albany' Project May Take Aim at Google Docs

Utah State University Blankets Campus with Wireless Coverage

Utah State University has blanketed its 400-acre campus with wireless coverage for 25,000 students, faculty and staff using wireless LAN equipment from Meru Networks. The Logan, UT school has installed 700 Meru wireless access points in 150 of 200 buildings on campus, including all academic facilities and residences. It has also installed the access points at a number of remote sites across the state.
